Memorial Day // A Tribute and Remembrance

All this weekend and especially today- I sense a deep urge to recall and recollect on the sacrifice so many people have made for our country. The husbands, wives, kids, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, cousins- the list could go on and on.....Quite a few of my family have served in the military and are still serving this country. The same also goes for my friends and acquaintances. I grew up only a few miles away from the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery and as a kid we used to go on Memorial Day to take part and watch the ceremony- among the rows and rows of grave stones. I haven't been in years, but I still recall the impact it made on me....

When I was in high school- Trace Adkins released a song called "Arlington." Here the link to the music video for those who have never heard it. From the first time I heard this song- I made a promise to myself that I would one day visit Arlington and walk on those grounds amongst so many who had given everything they had for our freedom...

In 2012, I got that opportunity. I had driven to DC for the day from VA Beach with my cousin, and we made stop off in the morning before going to see the other sites in the area. It was a once in a lifetime experience. I sensed an immense peace walking along the paths and gained an even deeper sense of gratitude. We made our way to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier where I got to witness the changing of the guard. Standing in that crowd of people watching- let me just say wow. I was taking video with my camera while trying to hold back the tears and not shake like a leaf. Soon after that ceremony we left Arlington to make our way around DC and see some of the other war memorials- but the entire time and still to this day "Taps" plays in my heart. And whenever I hear it now- I'm taken straight back to Arlington like it was just yesterday...

So today- I want to give a huge huge THANK YOU to all those who have sacrificed, are sacrificing, and will sacrifice their lives and everything they have for our country and freedoms! We can spend time with our families, BBQ, and swim today ONLY because of their sacrifices. So please take a moment of silence and remember- thank those you know (call them, send a text..) and also say a prayer of gratitude for those you don't know and will never meet.

                                  Until next time-

Have a Happy Memorial Day and God Bless!

36 Photo Challenge // Spring

Hey Everyone-

A couple weeks back I had a few free hours and stopped off at our beautiful MO Botanical Garden. All the flowers were blooming like mad with brilliant color everywhere! I decided to challenge myself and only take 36 photos the whole time I was there. So I could really savor the moment and only photograph what caught my eye. Out of those 36 frames- I kept 29. I am looking forward to the next 36 photo challenge I give myself. If you have never done this before- I encourage you too. It's a real eye opener to make each shot count and not just click the shutter because you have the space on your memory card. Until next time......

                                                Happy Framing!!!
